Not That But This was honored to be invited to The Community Artists’ Collective event honoring philanthropist and major art collector Carolyn Farb with the Lester Marks award. Guest speaker Kerry James Marshall gave a great talk about his work, history, and all sorts of other interesting things and was later had a discussion with curator Valerie Cassel Oliver.
Later (much later) NTBT was honored to be in the presence of another great artist. Menil Curator of Collections Paul Davis speaks with artist Sam Gilliam about his work and perseverance in abstraction and staying power. He discussed his focused efforts to take risks, his process, and his decision to remain true to abstraction despite the popularity of figuration and representation during his career.
Project Row Houses had its Round 43. It is titled Small Business/Big Change: Economic Perspectives from Artists and Artpreneurs. It poured down raining that evening. I mean flash flood warnings, tornado threats, and hurricane frights but folks were vigilant and came out to support this important round.
